Introduction:
  • The Forum is available only to subscribing members of the Model Electronic Railway Group.
  • The Foum provides a means for MERG members to correspond over the Internet on matters relating to the application of electronics (including computers) to all aspects of railway modelling, and other affairs relating to the Group.
  • Discussion of other related railway and modelling matters is also allowed, but may be curtailed by the Administrator or Moderators if the discussion gets too far off topic.  See also the etiquette section below.
  • The Forum is owned and managed by the Model Electronic Railway Group who cannot be held liable for the accuracy of any information published thereon.. Any such liability is the responsibility of the member publishing the information.
  • Forum members may choose to access the forum entirely by browsing on the web or may choose to subscribe to specific subsections or topics which interest them. If subscribed the notification of new posts to those topics will be sent to the member by email. As an option the subscriber can choose to get the full text of the posting in the email.  Provision for RSS feeds is under consideration as an additional feature but has not yet been implemented.

Joining and Leaving the Forum:
  • To prevent the Forum being ‘spammed’ by unwanted advertising or malicious postings members are required to REGISTER and the administrator will check details against the membership list before accepting the registration. Note that the Forum and 'Members pages' are integrated and hence the one registration covers both.
  • MERG members wishing to REGISTER for the Forum and Members' pages can do so via this link. Do not try to Login before you have registered.
  • New members on joining the Forum receive a welcome message confirming their username etc.. Full details of the foum operation can be found by checking the faq link in the page headers.
  • There is no specific need to leave the forum, members who resign or lapse will be deleted from the database as part of our membership administration system. If you have subscribed to recieve emails and wish to stop the emails just go into the forum (user control panel) and 'unsubscribe'.
  • If for some reason you specifically want to be 'deregistered' then ask the administrator to remove you.

Posting Etiquette:
  • Please use a topic heading that clearly summarises the message content. Many users selectively read the forum on the basis of the topic headings alone, ignoring other messages. Please try to put any new topic you create into the appropriate forum or subforum. This makes it easier to find relevant topics when looking for help with something.  Before creating a new topic check that there isn't already an appropriate topic where your post will fit.
  • Messages should attempt to add some value to the group discussion.
  • Where needed to make it clear what your contribution is about you can quote from earlier messages in the topic, please keep such quotes to the minimum needed to establish context rather than quoting an entire message.
  • Appending a signature is acceptable if you want to give a bit of personal info such as your website address that does not appear in the member profile shown with each message. Please do not use large ASCII art signatures.
  • File attachments, such as pictures, code snippets etc. are welcome.
  • If you wish to continue a discussion that has wandered off topic, or is likely to be of interest to one user only, please e-mail them directly rather than through the whole Forum.
  • It should be noted that postings to the forum are not pre-censored or moderated, however postings considered by the administrator or moderators to be offensive or inflammatory may be removed. Neither MERG, nor the Administator and moderators take any responsibility for the content of messages, that responsibility rests solely with the authors.
  • Should you get involved in any personal disputes they should be taken off forum.
  • Commercial advertising should be limited to announcements in the specified area of the forum. Off topic advertising is not acceptable.
  • The Administrator reserves the right to moderate or ban at his sole discretion anyone who does not keep to the forum rules.

Problems Sending and Receiving Messages:
  • Members experiencing problems posting to and receiving messages from the Forum can request the assistance of the Webmaster by e-mailing details of your difficulties.

Legacy Email list
Prior to establishment of the Forum the primary Members communication was by a Yahoo email list. This list is currently being maintained for access to the archived messages and is still in use by those members hooked on it. Details available here.
